Week 5 - Class Activity: Group Character Research

Fig.1 - Character Research

As a group, we did a class activity where we had to go down the list and tick what we wanted our character to be. For instance; we decided to create a male character which I named Ahiga - He Fights, who is an eagle, and a little chubby, thus making him hard to fly, he is native, has long tied braided hair, has a big scar across his eye and has a tattoo that tells a story of the battles he fought, etc. The creation of Ahiga was fascinating as the character was not just a model but had a story from within. We decided to do our research based on the character and combined it on PureRef, which is shown below. Researching Ahiga made me realise that there is not just one idea or style, that there is more if you think outside the box. As Ahiga could be; portrayed as an expressionistic character or a less serious man, He could have winged feathers as hands instead of normal wings on the back. Thus what I have learnt from this assignment/ group work is, that there are easier ways to research than using google images and shouldn't be afraid to look at another angle.

  1. Glad to see that you enjoyed the exercise, and it's a good collection of reference images you've gathered. Just in terms of blog presentation, perhaps using more of a bullet-point format for the character description would make for an easier read that a block of text. Did you do the independent study character practice activity as well?
