Week 6 - Basic Body Mechanics

Fig.1 - Walk Cycle

We started the day by learning how to use references to create the animation we wanted. After the teacher's presentation, I used this rigged square to animate a walking cycle. I followed the step from the lesson and posed them every 10 frames using the extra, between and in between poses. For the object to be moving from side to side I made sure the waist was poised in a strict direction from left to right. I then used the graph editor to follow its animation as shown below. Following the lines strictly I corrected it to follow the direction of the waves and created bridges from obvious static motion from the legs. The graph editor help me understand my animation and create a character from the walk, for instance, I made the walk a little heavy to create a lazy characteristic walk as shown in figure 1. After being proud of my walking cycle I used post infinity to repeat the sequence through the keyframe.

I thought this went well as I managed to give the walk a character. What I would do differently is work more on the walk to make it smoother and less robotic. I should have moved the body upwards to make the legs less bent as it would look more realistic.
