Week 1 and 2 - First Day

Fig.1 - 3D Model Scooter

On my first day, I did not know what to expect. We were given the assignment to create certain shapes and perfect them by placing edge loops in the right place. One of the shapes we had to create was a handlebar from a playground which I created and turned into a scooter. Since I have already been introduced to Maya before, I thought I would already know where to put edge loops easily, However, depending on the shapes it was difficult. I had some time to solve the problem on my own, which I was able to do, but later on, learnt from the module teacher Richard that there was an easier technique.

When creating the handle I was proud of myself, as I did not think I would go this far in a short time. When creating an object in Maya I would always time myself to get used to the tools and see how fast I could accomplish my goal. The Handle took 3 minutes to make and extra for detail. In my opinion; the handle looks appealing to the eye, even though the scooter was an extra, I thought it worked well with the handle. I love the little details I ended up giving the object from top to bottom. I was going for a sci-fi scooter that floats on air which I think is a success. What I might have changed is the look of the scooter; by making it more complex/ more textured (E.g Handle).

Fig.3 - Experimenting

Whilst I was waiting, I experimented with an object not knowing what I was creating. It looked or had an alien figure. So I decided to experiment with lighting and creating more edge loops and extruding them. After my little experiment, I rendered the image, which became this final outcome in Fig.3. I used blue, green and red lighting to give the none coloured objects pigmentation. I got excited and decided to duplicate the model and make an intriguing atmosphere that came out successfully. Although this is something random, if I were to pursue this I would focus more on the lighting and camera angle as it would create something photojournalistic.
