Fig.1 - Codename: Kids Next Door, Influence Map

Hearing what is expected for our final module I got excited and started daydreaming of what I could create. Judging from my last project done from my bachelor degree, I wanted to push myself more into creating something intriguing and ambitious. I looked at all the character designs and could not find anything. Until I stumbled across a random childhood cartoon called; Codename Kids Next Door. I was very fascinated by the characters and the environment itself. As shown in the 'Figure 1' character influence map. The cartoon characters have big hands and big feet besides that a small physique. The weapons are fascinatingly designed for the 'kids,' such as; the bubblegum machine used as a weapon, a yoyo and teddy bears which would be exciting to design. In my mind, I had two characters posing, although this might be too ambiguous, I might end up posing one character depending on how much I learn from Zbrush and the time that I have with the skills I will be harnessing.

Fig.2 - Character Designs Influence Map

Judging by my Ambiguity, I made a second character Influence map. Which I was surprisingly still fascinated about. For instance, The big red Monster figure at the bottom right from 'Maya and the three' captured my eyes. Watching this show I was absorbed by its colour and most importantly the shapes used to design the characters. There were a lot of shapes combined which would be gratifying to design. However the movie 'Luca' also captivated my eyes as I loved how the characters were presented and rigged, They looked heavy which was satisfying to look at as it gave realism. Looking at the characters chosen, it is obvious that I would love to create shapes and show fashion in my work as I want to learn how to make clothing materials, and use Nclothing in Zbrush and Maya.

Fig.3 - Kids Next Door: Rough Sketch Thumbnails

Still Fascinated by Codename: Kids next door, I chose to create a rough sketch of what I envisioned in my mind. Again this is very ambitious and might end up posing one character depending on my time. I am mostly intrigued by thumbnail number two, character name: Number 4, real name - Wallabee Beetles.

  1. Interesting to read about your influences, like the sketches. But I'd also like to see more engagement with the learning material for the module. - Richard
