Week 9

Fig.1 - Textured model from Substance Painter

Texturing in substance painter was intimidating as it felt like working on photoshop with more advanced qualities. Since I was already introduced to Sub painter last week I was able to feel more comfortable. However I struggled to understand how layers and folders work, I would always give one material to all of the mesh by mistake. As shown in "fig.1" I was able to problem-solve my way through it as I understood how to use the layers and colours. After practising I decided to go home and try improving my skills by exporting a part of my plane into sub painter. (Fig.2) I was able to do more than just assign materials after following Patrick's tutorials. However laying the textures on the plane object in Maya, became intriguing as my skills are not polished enough in using bump maps, which I hope I will learn in my next post on this blog.

Looking at my work, it is obvious, I still have a lot to learn. What I would improve is to feel freer with Sub-painter, for example: painting the materials and not just applying them. In addition, I hope to learn more about bump mapping to leave the awkwardness of approaching bump maps.
